BLITZ AWARDS 2009

Inverness Blitz celebrated their 10th Anniversary with a spectacular prizegiving ceremony at the Ironworks.

A host of players and coaches and supporters of the Blitz, both past and present, were in attendance as the focus was not only on the top performer from the season just finished, but also looking back over the 10 years since the American Football Academy was formed in the Highland Capital.

“This year was one of the most exciting and emotional Blitz Awards We’ve had,” said development officer and awards organiser Robbie Paulin.

“The combination of the fantastic venue, look-back videos from all 10 years of the Blitz and some heartfelt words from various people made the event one to remember.”

The most prestigious prize – the Blitz Achievement Award – went to Kenny Mackay, who has been an outstanding performer during his five years with the Blitz.

The other award winners were: Best Defensive Back: Under-18 - Laurie Cuthbertson; Over-18 - Chris McDiarmid.  Best Quuarterback - Kenny Mackay.  Most Improved Player - Scott Macdonald.  Best Linebacker: Under-18 - Craig Findlay; Over-18 - Mats Kraft.  Volunteering Highland Award - Bette and Dave Paulin. Rookie of the Season - James Hudson.  Best Offensive Lineman - David Ronald.  Best Defensive Lineman - Calum Sutherland.  Best Wide Receiver: Under-18 - Lewis Warburton; Over-18 - Ewan Straiton. Some of the Blog Updates on the run up to the event:

UPDATE 8:

As part of the 10th Aniverdary Celebration we're filming a special video tomorrow (Monday 5th October) for the BLITZ AWARDS 2009. We're going back to where the Blitz first began and meeting some of the orginal Blitz team members. I'll be seeing how well they still know their plays and try get them to come along to the awards for the Inverness Blitz Reunion.

UPDATE 7:
Just had another presenter confirmed...Coach Rob Orr from the University of Stirling. He'll be coming up along with some of the Universities coaching staff and as well as presenting an award he'll be hosting a question & answer session during half time (in the lounge area) on further education admissions procedures and the universities’ football programme.

Stirling University was voted by the Times newspaper as the number one university in Scotland in 2009. Also it's the nations only designated university for sporting excellence.

Their football programme is also ranked number one in the country, with 5 Scottish divisional pendants, a northern conference title and a national UK championship in the last eight years alone. Plus many of their players and coaches have consistently been selected onto collegiate MVP all-star teams and even to represent Team GB.

UPDATE 6:
The voice over works all recorded now. Very strange hearing the voice of the XFactor saying 'the Blitz Awards 2009'...Sounds really good though. There's some funny bits for halftime as well so listen out for them!

Also manged to track down some of the original Inverness Blitz players (with the help of Lorraine). So giving them a call tomorrow. Trying to track down as many as I can to come along to the BLITZ AWARDS! So if you know any or are maybe a former player yourself get in touch :D

UPDATE 5:

So we'll be linking up with him on Wednesday, 16 September in a recording studio in London.  He'll do all the voice over work for the BLITZ AWARDS in November and you'll be able to hear him through the show!

I'll let you know how it goes on Thursday...

UPDATE 1:

The BLITZ AWARDS 2009 are almost here. Things are totally different this year. It's bigger than ever before. For a start we're in the Ironworks! Normally we just celebrate one season but this year it's the 5th BLITZ AWARDS and the 10th Anniversary of the Inverness Blitz.

Throughout the show in between the awards there'll be 10 year look back videos. You've seen the 'Blitz Celebrates Memories / Friendship / Success etc' videos before but this year they look back on all 10 years of the Blitz. And we've got some new 'look backs' as well:
